
Heidi Watney, born May 19 1981 She is an American sportscaster as well as a reporter for Apple TV+. She earned her degree from the University of San Diego and was an sportscaster for several stations, including Time Warner Cable SportsNet, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet Los Angeles, and two stations here in Fresno. Watney was a student at Clovis West High School in Fresno where she competed in hurdles, diving, gymnastics and cheerleading. One of her achievements was being a National Merit Scholar. She attended the University of San Diego with an academic scholarship. In 2003 she graduated with top distinction. Watney was the Miss California USA 2002 runner-up. Watney is the cousin of professional golfer Nick Watney. Seven-year-old author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's surname to create the character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name in an Red Sox game broadcast. Watney was featured in the music video of Dropkick Murphys' "Going Out in Style" single.
